Rockies, Kyle Freeland Agree To Five-Year, $64.5M Extension

Left-hander Kyle Freeland and the Colorado Rockies are in agreement on a five-year, $64.5 million contract that includes a sixth-year player option, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN.

The contract ties the 28-year-old Freeland to his hometown team through at least the 2026 season and will guarantee him the most money for a Rockies pitcher since they signed Mike Hampton to a $121 million deal more than two decades ago.

It is the largest contract agreement in franchise history.

The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a two-year, $10.4 million deal with Harrison Bader that allowed the two sides to avoid salary arbitration.

Bader, 27, gets a $1 million signing bonus as part of the deal and salaries of $4.7 million in each of the next two seasons.

The outfielder's 2023 salary can increase by an additional $2.25 million: $250,000 each for 350 plate appearances or 85 starts, 400-98 and 450-111, and $500,000 apiece for 500-124, 550-137 and 600-150.
